There are very few times in my day where I can just clear my head and think things through. Even if I am not with my kids, I am thinking about how to plan my day, what I need to do for work, what the kids have going on that day, ideas for my books, how to market my books, and so on…
On top of all of that, I am attached to my smartphone. I wonder why my brain can’t function, and it’s because as a creative person, my phone and social media are taking up space in my head needed to plan and execute my creations. It’s also flooding me with tons of useless input, clogging me up, and not allowing for the free flow of output.
What I have stated above is my first mistake, and although it’s not January 1st, I plan to make a mid-year resolution to detach a bit from social media.
Secondly and most important, it dawned on me that this very blog is catering to the wrong audience. I love sharing this journey. I love to highlight my mistakes and to share my triumphs in hopes to inspire and inform aspiring authors.
However, I am also trying to sell children’s books right? I am trying to spread awareness about enjoying the little things in life with your kids. At the heart of it, that is what ‘Sam Likes Jam’ was really about. A mom and her son, going to the farm and making Jam together. This is also what ‘Go Play’ is about as well. I don’t quite feel like this message is coming across effectively, and I’m going to change that.
This morning, I found a quiet moment that was free of kids and smartphones, and it hit me, my “a-ha moment”. I could almost see the lightbulb above my head. So here it goes… This blog will still be dedicated to sharing my writing journey. I am going to share those posts on Tuesdays.
The second part of this blog (posted on Fridays) will be dedicated to sharing activity ideas to do with your kids. I am going to keep them seasonal, and they will encompass everything from cooking, crafts, gardening and beyond. I need to cater to my target audience, and I wasn’t before. I don’t know how I missed that, but I did.
Anyway, that’s all for now! Stay tuned for a cool new idea on Friday!
Until next time,
